About the Library

Introduction

The Vilhelm Krause Library is on the ground floor of the main College building occupying the former convent chapel. It is arranged over two floors with study areas for ninety readers and a separate computing room.

Within Europe the library houses a unique collection of material which is designed not only to serve the College community of students and staff, but also as a reference resource to those outside the institution undertaking research. It holds a stock of some 10,500 books, 160 current periodicals and a variety of multimedia resources. Any items not within the library's stock can be requested through the Inter-Library Loan Service.

On induction, students are given an introduction to and brief tour of the library and a printed guide to the library and its services. Further instruction on how to use the library is given throughout the course to small seminar groups. The student computing facility within the library comprises 24 computers, printers, scanners and a seperate bookable group study room. These can be used for word processing, accessing specialised software on CD-ROM, e-mail or accessing a range of internet services via the library's intranet.
